This past weekend we attended the Specialty Coffee Expo in Portland, Oregon. The coffee expo has everything you can imagine that has to do with coffee, from roasting, to espresso machines, to packaging, to new products and recipes.

What Are the Trends in Coffee and Tea?
We came back to Georgia inspired by new flavors and ideas. Nitro is continuing to be a trend that is growing, not only with cold brewed coffee, but also with iced teas like nitro hibiscus. Cold and hot drinks are becoming more crafted to the point that they are like cocktails (sans the alcohol). Instead of decaf drinks, boosts of caffeine are trending. Crafted sodas, iced teas and fruit punches are a natural fit for the caffeine boost. After lunch, most of us hit a lull in energy, especially when the weather starts to get hot. We will soon be offering additional energy boosts to our cold drinks to help you get through that afternoon dip in energy so you can power through the rest of the day. If you are a Red Bull person, this will be a good option for you.
New Flavors to Try
As far as flavor trends, exotic fruits, floral flavors, and Asian influenced flavors were all over the Expo and forecasted to be popular. Torani Syrups has deemed black sesame the flavor of 2023. While we were skeptical about this flavor, once we tried the drinks made with black sesame syrup, we were converts. Torani debuted a kettle corn flavored syrup that tasted delicious in a salted caramel latte. Salted vanilla was a flavor combination that we tasted that was very good. As for florals, in addition to lavender, look for elderflower. We have just added elderflower to the shop. Try it in a hot latte for a subtle berry and floral taste. Passionfruit and kiwi are flavors that are popular mixed with teas or punches.

Elevated Experience
Crafted drinks with muddled herbs or fruits, flavored creamy cold foams and garnishes are all on trend. We want to elevate the whole drink experience here at Beans & Butter. We are planning a more genteel hot tea service with glass carafes, and we will be serving Arteao teas in the near future.

The return of ceramicware and glassware will be a part of the experience if you decide to enjoy your drink here. We want people to feel welcome to spend their time savoring their drinks in our shop. It’s all about our community, and we want you to feel like this is your special place to relax and treat yourself.

Innovative Product Design
Furthermore, we saw new innovations in coffee equipment, such as the Cerapotta paperless, porous ceramic pour over filters. We are planning to offer more merchandise for tea and coffee lovers in the store that will be wonderful for special holiday or birthday gifts, or just nice to have for yourself.

We were able to meet growers and coffee distributors from all over the world. The Specialty Coffee Expo has energized us with caffeine and ideas! We are looking forward to sharing these new trends with our customers.
